The Isivuno Building in Tshwane has been closed due to problems with the building’s centralised ventilation system.

The City of Tshwane’s Lindela Mashigo says 400 employees had to be evacuated from the building that serves as the city’s headquarters.

"The defective system has led to poor air quality and elevated temperature levels which has affected the employees’ comfort, health and safety.”

Mashigo says the city conducted inspections last year following complaints by staff.

"We were advised by our safety officers, who look after our buildings, as to whether they comply, are they okay for occupancy.”

Mashigo says the employees who have been removed are from the Economic Development and Spatial Planning as well as the Regional Operations and Coordination departments.
