Dad who killed four sons sentenced to 52 years in prison

A 37-year-old man who killed his four sons by slitting their throats has been sentenced to 52 years in jail.

Lesiba Kekana
Maidi Monareng

Lesiba Kekana pleaded guilty to the murder of his four children, aged between 4 and 13 years.

On Thursday, the court heard testimony from Kekana. He told the court his wife had told him that he was useless and he then decided to end his life.

"I thought of my children and thought who would look after them," Kekana said.

He said that he then decided to kill them.

On Friday Judge Joseph Raulinga said Kekana should have had mercy on his children and should not have killed them.

"He slaughtered his four children without mercy, without relenting and in spite of the fact that he thought that his children would suffer. He ought to have looked at them, and instead of killing them, he ought to have had mercy on them."

His wife, Lorraine Kekana, said nothing will bring back her children. "If there was a sentence that could bring back my children, I would recommend it."
