Danny Jordaan's lawyers want rape case brought to court
Updated | By Gaophalelwe Phalaetsile
Lawyers representing South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan have accused police of refusing to give them information on the docket opened by former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson.
Ferguson has laid a charge of rape against Jordaan.
She broke her silence in 2017, claiming the incident happened in a hotel in Port Elizabeth in 1997.
The legal firm representing Jordaan, Mohlala Attorneys, says it will now contact the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to have the matter brought to court as soon as possible.
The firm says the allegations are extremely damaging to Jordaan's reputation.

"Despite numerous attempts to contact authorities, including two letters directed to the South African Police Service, we have been unable to determine any information about the whereabouts of the docket," the statement reads. "We reiterate that Ms Ferguson's allegations are absolutely unfounded and untrue and that her true motives are deeply suspect."
In response the police's Vish Naidoo said given the sensitive nature of the case, they are not in a position to respond to queries.
