DA’s Mkhwebane request referred to justice committee

National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise has replied to a submission by the Democratic Alliance (DA) on the conduct on Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The DA on Friday confirmed that its request to have Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane removed from office has been referred to Parliament’s justice committee.

Mkhwebane has found herself on the wrong side of several court judgements.
In one of the judgments, the high court in Pretoria found Mkhwebane's report on the Estina dairy farm project unconstitutional.

"That's Parliament's responsibility now in terms of the Public Protector Act in the Constitution to hold such inquiries to ensure that the public protector is up for the job,” says the DA’s chief whip John Steenhuisen.
