Proteas batter Theunis de Bruyn will miss the third Test against Australia at the SCG in Sydney on Wednesday.
De Bruyn will return home for the birth of his first child.
The Third test is expected to get underway on Wednesday, 4 January 2023.
Protea's were on the wrong end of a hammering against rampant top-ranked Australia, clinching the series 2-0.
The team is traveling to Sydney next week for the final Test with only pride to play for with some changes to a batting lineup that has largely failed to fire.
