Former Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille unveiled the name of her new political party in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The former Democratic Alliance (DA) member says her new party’s name is ‘GOOD’.

The announcement came weeks after De Lille announced that she would be starting her own political party to contest the 2019 general elections in all nine provinces.

"That name and identity arose from the hopeful and patriotic vision we hold and from the values we have enshrined in our movement’s constitution and our country’s constitution,” she said.

"It is a simple and authentic name that says quite boldly what we stand for and that we are here to disrupt politics as usual. It is rallying call to GOOD South Africans to resuscitate the project of optimism and reconciliation.”

De Lille says her party will be guided by four values: trust, the truth, solidarity and service.

She adds that her party is going to change politics in the country and will fight corruption and racism.

"I wanted good South Africans, men and women, young and experienced of all races to step forward to lead our country. I was looking for those who represent the diversity in our country. Many people have offered financial support for our movement," she said.

De Lille resigned as Cape Town mayor in October, and subsequently stepped down as a member of the DA.

It followed months of fighting and accusations between the two parties, both in the Cape Town council and in the party caucus.
