De Ruyter briefed South Africans on the way forward after the power utility ramped up the blackouts on Sunday morning.

Eskom implemented stage 6 load shedding on Sunday following a trip at a generation unit each at Kusile and Kriel power stations.

“Maintenance teams are working flat out to bring back units as quickly as they can,” De Ruyter said.

“We are planning to bring back 1 590MW by Sunday evening, and 3 500MW by Monday evening.”
