Dead-end for police in Moti brothers’ case: expert
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Law expert Ulrich Roux says the court interdict by the father of the Moti brothers means that it is the end of the road for police in the case.
The four brothers Zidan, Zayyad, Alaan, and Zia Moti – aged between 7 and 15 - were abducted at gunpoint in October and later released.
On Sunday police have confirmed the Moti family, whose four sons were kidnapped last year, has left the country for Dubai.
“Well, the police have reached a dead end, they cannot get any statements from the complainant and the family has moved to Dubai, so they yet to testify. At this stage it doesn’t seem as if it will ever go to court, the police need to arrest someone first before going to court.”
The family brought an ex parte application before court and the interdict was granted.
“It could be that the interdict was granted based on the police may have botched the investigations or the family no longer wants to pursue the matter or police might have invaded the privacy of minors and the high court could have granted the interdict,” says Le Roux.
