The utility targeted businesses and residential areas in Bryanston, Windsor, and Strijdom Park.

The indebted business disconnected by City Power was Damelin college, which the entity claims is some R2 million in arrears.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the revenue collection drive aims to recoup R10 billion.

"We are in Randburg for our aggressive revenue collection exercise. We are disconnecting Damelin, which is an institution of higher learning and also houses a high school.

"The institution owes City Power R2 million they have not been paying electricity for some time. They have been ignoring several of our letters, and we decided to come and disconnect."

“This is part of our exercise to recoup about R10 billion that is owed to the City of Johannesburg. We are targeting such businesses and government institutions because we believe that they are making a profit and they can be able to pay for services,” he said.
