Denel CFO placed on special leave

Arms manufacturer Denel has placed its chief financial officer (CFO) Odwa Mhlwana on special leave following several allegations of misconduct.
Mhlwana has been put on special leave pending a disciplinary process.
The company says serious allegations of misconduct has been made against Mhlwana and several other senior employees and he has now been placed on special leave in order to create "a conducive environment that will allow for the commencement of a verification process in respect of these allegations of misconduct".

"The verification process will include interviews with the CFO's colleagues, such that putting Mhlwana on special leave will be in the interest of fairness to him, his colleagues and Denel," says Denel spokesperson Vuylewa Qinga.
The process will be presided over by an independent chairperson and should be completed by the end of July 2018.
