Mashatile responded to oral questions in the National Assembly on Thursday morning.

The DA's Chief Whip, Siviwe Gwarube, asked the deputy President whether the ANC would support its motion of no confidence against Mapisa-Nqakula.

Responding to Gwarube, Mashatile said "the speaker of parliament is cooperating with law enforcement agencies. You may also be aware that she has - on a number of occasions - said that if she is charged with these alleged offences, she is prepared to step down. My approach is, let’s give these processes an opportunity so that we can know exactly what is happening,".

The acting National Assembly Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli accepted the motion of no confidence brought by the DA against Mapisa-Nqakula.

Mapisa-Nqakula is seeking to interdict the state from arresting her in an ongoing probe into claims that she solicited and received bribes of more than R2 million during her tenure as the Minister of Defense and Military Veterans.

This comes after the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Investigating Directorate, raided her Johannesburg home last week.
