Des Van Rooyen: I am excited to work with new Cabinet

Co-operative Governance Minister Des Van Rooyen says political instability has a negative influence on service delivery.

Van Rooyen believes Gigaba is more than capable of leading Treasury

Speaking ahead of the third Presidential Local Government Summit, which kicked off in Midrand, van Rooyen said he is looking forward in working with newly appointed Cabinet ministers.

The summit will see President Jacob Zuma meet all three spheres of government.

Van Rooyen, who was replaced by Pravin Gordhan following a short stint at the head of Treasury in December 2015, said ministers need to work as part of the collective, and not as individuals.

"Our junk status is concerning, but what we should take across is that; what can we do better to ensure that we realise the objective of our development agenda," van Rooyen said.

He added that he is excited about the composition of the new Cabinet, adding he is convinced the country is being led by people who are determined to take it forward.

"The bulk of the team consist of young leaders who have grown through the ranks of the party," he said.
