He was speaking at the unveiling of a partnership with the Gauteng government to put a stop to the destruction of property during protests.

Makhatshwa says the destruction of property cannot continue.

He says they are especially concerned about the tendency to burn down schools, as has happened in Vuwani in Limpopo recently.

Makhatswa believes South Africans need to change the way they relate to a democratically-elected government.

"If you burn down the schools, it's not just the buildings - the physical part of it - you are destroying. You are destroying the future of many, many young people. Your own children, your own relatives and the country as a whole. You are crippling the economic potential of the country," says Makhatshwa.
