Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza says the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a budget cut of just under R2 billion.
Speaking during the debate on her department’s budget on Tuesday, Didiza warned that the budget cut will harm food distribution, as well as land redistribution and restitution.
"Food security had budget cuts of R939 million, land redistribution and tenure reforms and R540 million and land restitution R403 million," she said.
The minister added that the rural development budget had been cut by R199.7 million.
Didiza said this will impact social infrastructure in rural areas.
