Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has described the late North West MEC Gordon Kegakilwe as someone who was passionate about the issues that affected the “most poor and vulnerable”.
The statement by Dlamini-Zuma follows the passing of Kegakilwe on Monday, due to Covid-19.
Kegakwile was rushed to Vryburg Private Hospital with pneumonia but later suffered a heart attack while being transferred to another facility in Klerksdorp.

“MEC Kegakilwe was passionate about the issues affecting the poor and the most vulnerable section of the population.
“He was a committed activist who has served the province in various roles before his appointment as the MEC role,” says Dlamini-Zuma in the statement.
Dlamini-Zuma also passed her condolences to the Kegakwile family during this period.
Kegakilwe’s death comes at a time when the country has surpassed the 200 000 mark in Covid-19 infections.
Gauteng’s infections have also increased substantially, with expectations that it may soon surpass the Western Cap as the country’s epicentre.
