Dramatic rescue to free man from a trench
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
A man, believed to be in his 30s, has been rescued after he'd been stuck in a trench for almost six hours next to a house in Kloof, west of Durban.
According to ER24 paramedics, the contractor was part a team that'd been digging a trench next to the home when the surrounding walls collapsed - trapping him in the soil.
ER24's Werner Vermaak says they were called out to the property at around 2pm yesterday.

"One of the workers was actually trapped in the trench right up to his neck. When the initial rescue started, it was ER24 guys and they tried to get him out as soon as possible. However, they quickly realised that more specialised equipment and rescue teams. It doesn't help you opening up an area to have the walls of the trench collapse again," he said.
Vermaak says the contractor, who was rescued after 8pm yesterday was in a lot of pain.
The man is receiving treatment in hospital for several injuries - including injuries to his chest.
