Drugs, counterfeit goods worth billions seized

Customs officials have confiscated drugs and illicit goods worth R2.3 billions at its borders over the past year.
In the latest incident, custom officials from the South African Revenue Service (Sars) discovered 207 bags of cannabis, worth over R9 million, at the Ficksburg border post in the Free State on Thursday.
The driver of the truck was arrested by police.
Kenyan smugglers also tried to transport 108 kg of mandrax tablets into the country, using the cargo section at the OR Tambo International Airport.
The case has was handed over to the Hawks for further investigation.
The single biggest contributor to the R2.3 billion seized in illicit and counterfeit goods was clothing amounting to R1.8 billion.
The seizure of narcotics amounted to over R326-million.
