Duarte requests meeting with eNCA, Sanef
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte has requested a meeting with the editorial team of eNCA as well as the South African National Editors Forum (Sanef).
This follows a verbal altercation between Jesse Duarte and eNCA journalist Samkele Maseko, which was aired live on the news channel on Tuesday afternoon.
During the quarrel, Duarte criticised Maseko saying he "had a habit of intimidating everybody, a habit of making people feel you are the lord of the media".
In a subsequent statement, the ANC accused the channel of biased reporting.

"The African National Congress has noted the one sided and biased story given by the eNCA on the interaction between Mr Samkelo Maseko and the ANC Deputy Secretary General (DSG), Cde Jessie Duarte.
“At the beginning of the briefing, the DSG explained that she would only read the media statement, but if there are any questions outside the statement, these should be referred to the ANC acting national spokesperson."
The party also accused Maseko of acting in "an unacceptable and unprofessional outburst".
"The DSG reiterates her commitment to freedom of the media and editorial independence which has been championed by the ANC for many years.”
