Duduzane Zuma: I was not speeding

Duduzane Zuma has reiterated in court that he was not speeding on the night of a fatal crash when his Porsche was involved in a fatal crash with a taxi.

The 2014 crash resulted in the death of Phumzile Dube.

He told the Randburg Magistrates Court on Thursday that he was driving at a speed between 90 and 100km/h, despite the insurance report stating that he said he was driving at 70km/h.

Zuma's legal team brought in an accident reconstruction expert, Konrad Lotter, who testified that according to the evidence provided Zuma was driving at least 87km/h.

Lotter said it was impossible for Zuma to have been speeding as he would have gone past the tax. He said the taxi and Zuma were driving at a similar speed, hence they came to a stop at relatively the same place.

Another an eyewitness also came forward for the first time, with Micheal Jankelowitz-Roberts saying he read on the news that AfriForum's advocate Gerrie Nel would be involved in the case, and he knew Zuma would be victimised.

He said he was driving from Montecasino on the M1 when Zuma's Porsche overtook him at such a slow speed he could see the registration number.

Jankelowitz further told the court that he later noticed the Porsche's headlights coming toward him in the opposite direction and realised that a car must have spun out of control.

He argued he did not see the taxi Zuma collided with, even after the state showed him a picture of it shortly after the crash with the body of Phumzile Dube hanging from the window.

The trial has been postponed to June 20 for closing arguments.
