Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokesperson, Kobeli Mokheseng, says police were conducting a routine patrol when they stopped and searched an Uber-registered vehicle with two male occupants in the Edenvale area on Thursday morning.

"Both the driver and a suspect were taken to the Edenvale police station where at a later stage it was established that the Uber driver was clean," says Mokheseng.

"The foreign national is facing charges of possession and possible dealings in illicit substance. He will appear at the appropriate magistrate court soon," adds Mokheseng.

The man is said to have been in the country for about a week.
