Early childhood development in crisis, warns MMC
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The MMC for Health and Social Development in Johannesburg Mpho Phalatse has warned that early childhood development in South Africa is in crisis.
The raid comes shortly after two preschool children died earlier this month after apparently eating rat poison at a privately-owned day care centre in the area.

“There is an ECD crisis in the country. The fact that government is not offering early childhood development in the same way that we do with basic education is a crisis on its own,” said Phalatse.
“We have issued two notices for intention to close down facilities and we have issued other facilities with notices on what they need to put in place,” Phalatse said.
