‘Early days’ says EFF as it battles MK for third spot

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it sees no reason to be concerned about the party’s election results.

The party, which garnered the third most votes during the previous general elections in 2019, is facing a stiff challenge from former president Jacob Zuma’s MK party.
The EFF's stated aim was for leader Julius Malema to take over the president’s office at the Union Buildings or, at worst, to displace the DA as the main opposition party.
Early results showed that the EFF still held on to third position behind the ANC and the DA.
The party was in second position, behind the ANC, in both Limpopo and North West.
These results proved the EFF had no reason for concern, Secretary General Marshall Dlamini said.
"We are still monitoring because areas that are coming now are in the farms and suburbs where we are relatively not strong," says Dlamini.
On the emergence of MK in KZN, Dlamini said the EFF does not concern itself with the results of other parties.
"When we fight elections as EFF, we focus on ourselves. We are not a federal organisation. We are unitary, so we read our results as one organisation.
“Yes, the MK party is showing more strength in KZN, but we are still monitoring results, it is still early days for us," he said.
