The arrest follows the circulation of a video, which went viral on social media, showing revellers at Buccaneers at the East London beachfront dancing and drinking with no face masks on and not practising social distancing.

In the viral video, only a single female wearing a yellow top can be seen wearing a mask.

Buffalo City Metro spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya says the establishment was fined R5 000, which it hopes will send a strong message to businesses across the city that non-compliance will not be tolerated.

Ngwenya says during their investigation, the establishment's management admitted to contravening regulations.

The metro has called on licence-regulators to take tougher actions against all establishments that break the law.

Ngwenya says the Covid command council met on Monday morning where it was decided that they will intensify their operations.
