Updated | By Algoa FM
The 32-year-old man accused of hacking six family members to death appeared in the Elliotdale Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Zimbabwean national Nowa Makula was charged with six counts of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.
He was arrested at Ginsberg near King Williams Town last week after a 42-year-old mother was murdered together with her five children aged between six-months and 10 years last Tuesday.
Police said it was believed that an axe was used in the attack.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Eastern Cape Luxolo Tyali says during his brief appearance on Monday, the accused elected to be represented by a Legal Aid attorney and a Shona language interpreter.
The matter was postponed to 7 December for a formal bail application and for an interpreter to be present.
