An elderly man and his young son who were shot and wounded by suspects posing as police officers in Kirkwood have both died.
The 71-year-old Ben Plaatjies and his 11-year-old son Ken succumbed to their injuries in a hospital in Gqeberha on Sunday night.
Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says the family was asleep in their home in the Madikeni township, in Dunbrody, when Ben Plaatjies heard a knock at their door in the early hours of Saturday morning.
She says he opened the door because one man identified himself as a police officer.
Four suspects entered the house, including a woman, who were all reportedly dressed in police uniforms.
The father was handcuffed and shot in the abdomen.
Naidu says police are still investigating the circumstances on how the child sustained a gunshot wound, also to the abdomen.
She says it is not yet clear what was stolen from the house but the vehicle used in the robbery was found in Kwadesi in Gqeberha.
Two cases of murder and house robbery are now under investigation.
