EC bus crash death toll rises

Authorities are investigating a bus crash in the Eastern Cape which claimed the lives of at least 13 people.
The bus was traveling from Welkom to Mthatha when it overturned at a bridge between Ngcobo and Elliot in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday afternoon.
Thirteen people were killed, seven were critically injured while eighteen others in a serious condition. Seventeen people suffered minor injuries.
The provincial department of health spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, says mechanical extraction equipment had to be used to assist paramedics with recovering the bodies.

According to Kupelo the bus was transporting 60 passengers.
The cause of the accident is still unknown.
"We are only going to focus now on treating the injured. The scene was very bad, the driver of the bus is amongst the deceased. The accident was so bad that we found his body hanging in the tree."
