Ramaphosa delivered the keynote address at the opening of the Education International 10th Africa Regional Conference in Sandton on Tuesday.

Education International is a global teacher and education workers' labour federation with more than 32 million members.

Ramaphosa said education is affected by the instability experienced in some African countries plagued by coups, as well as the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.

"Right now, there are wars that are raging in Ukraine and Russia. There is also a terrible war that is raging in the Middle East that is in the process of destroying the lives of innocent people.

"These are crises that the education system has to respond to and be resilient in addressing them.

"As we navigated these turbulent waters, the world was confronted with political upheavals and conflicts. These crises further strained our social fabric, affecting the livelihoods of countless individuals and denying many children their fundamental right to education."
