'The EFF are kingmakers in Joburg': DA on mayoral seat race
Updated | By Christelle du Toit
"The situation is very much in limbo. We can only control what we can control," says Moodey.
The DA's Gauteng provincial leader, John Moodey says the EFF are the kingmakers in the race for the mayoral seat in the city of gold.
"The situation is very much in limbo. We can only control what we can control," says Moodey.
The election of a mayor for Johannesburg has been postponed to next week after Herman Mashaba left the position this week.
On Thursday, a council meeting that was meant to elect a new mayor was postponed in order to seek a legal opinion on what constitutes a majority of votes in the council.
Moodey says: "Should the EFF's candidate not make it....and they do not support a DA candidate, the ACN has more numbers than ourselves and our coalition partners together."

Moddey says he can't predict the outcome of the council meeting, "but we are open to discussions with the EFF."
He says the DA's coalition partners are on board but, "Ultimately, it is up to the EFF who are kingmakers."
