The EFF in Limpopo says it's devastated after unknown gunmen shot and killed one of the party’s councillors at his home in Ga-Botha village outside Marble Hall.
The 49-year-old Jonas Mpe, from Ward 2 in Ga-Botha under Sekhukhune district, was gunned down at his home by unknown suspects on Thursday.
On Sunday, police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said Mpe’s body was discovered on Friday morning.
His bakkie was later discovered hidden in the bushes in a nearby village.
"The deceased was a community leader and a member of the local municipality as a PR councillor. A case of murder and robbery has been registered," said Ledwaba.
EFF provincial chairperson Tshilidzi Maraga said Mpe was very involved in his community.
"He was very much active in the community, he was the real ground force and used to transport pensioners to their pay points, especially during grants.
"Today he was supposed to have transported learners without IDs to Home Affairs in Marble Hall," added Maraga.
She said Mpe had a good working relationship with the local tribal authorities.
