Both parties will argue that Zuma must comply with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s recommendations that he pay pay a portion of the R246 million spent on upgrades to his Nkandla homestead.

This after the EFF and the DA last week refused to accept Zuma’s offer to settle out of court by paying back some of the money used on non-security uprgades that include a swimming pool, amphitheatre and cattle kraal.

Until last week Zuma had refused to accept the public protector’s “remedial action” which recomended that the president pay back a portion of the money spent by the state on the upgrades. Previously Zuma has indicated that the remedial action was not “binding” like a “court order”.

The court will be expected to make a ruling on the powers and legal authority of the office of the public protector.

EFF supporters are expected to demonstrate outside the court. However, Zuma was not likely to attend the court in person.
