EFF ready to remove Trollip

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be holding talks with opposition party's in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro to remove Democratic Alliance (DA) mayor Athol Trollip.

This comes after months of infighting in the coalition government in the metro.

The EFF changed its tune on voting with the DA after it decided not to support its motion to land expropriate without compensation in Parliament.

Addressing scores of EFF supporters at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg earlier this year, party leader Julius Malema said the party is not divorcing the DA.

However, he said the party is separating itself from the "racist" DA.

EFF's Yoliswa Yako says the party wants some in the mayoral seat who is pro-poor and pro-Nelson Mandela Bay.

"In the manner which his execution is moving in any protects, budgets, it is moving towards a certain demographic of people which doesn't speak to the majority of the people of Nelson Mandela Bay," says Yako.

Yako believes the Speaker of the metro, Johanthan Lawack, will attempt to schedule the council meeting to debate a motion of no confidence on Friday, straight after a public holiday.

However, Yako says the party is ready to remove Trollip.

The EFF says it will not support any candidate from the Patriotic Alliance (PA) for the position of mayor.

"We will never allow space were we remove one, and put another that is like a previous one."

This is on the backdrop of the African National Congress' last attempt to remove Trollip by offering councillor Marlon Daniels the position of mayor.

However, earlier in the year PA's national leader Gayton McKenzie refused to support the EFF's motion to remove Trollip.

McKenzie told media that Malema's stances to remove Trollip are "racist."
