Thousands of students from the University of Cape town embarked on a shutdown following the disappearance and murder of student Uyinene Mrwetyane. The 19-year-old, who was missing for two weeks, was murdered by a post office employee in Claremont. The students asked that the president address the scourge of gender-based violence in the country.
"This is because the safety of those who are serviced by the post office is the responsibility of the post office and the minister of communications,” Malema said.
“Her killer was an employee of the post office and it's alleged he has a criminal record, a responsible government and an employer should have known this. By employing him, the minister and government were risking the lives of the community."
