EFF threatens to shut down Pick n Pay stores
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
EFF leader Julius Malema has threatened to shut down Pick n Pay supermarkets nationwide amid claims of unfairness and exploitation of former franchisees.
Briefing the media on Tuesday in Johannesburg, Malema said this will only happen if the Pick n Pay management ignores their third request for a meeting.
According to Malema through parliament, they have already sent two letters requesting a meeting with the executive to iron out the issues but Pick n Pay has not sent correspondence.
The party is accusing the retail giant of turning against the franchisees in black communities and subsequently leaving them with a huge debt.
"We want to caution them that if they continue to refuse to meet the EFF, they will leave us with no option but to close all their stores in South Africa. We will write to them the third and final letter, and we demand that they must positively respond this time, or we will be forced into militant action," said Malema.
Pick n Pay could not be reached for comment.
