EFF in Tshwane picketing in support of restaurants
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) in Tshwane is picketing outside the Department of Tourism’s offices in Pretoria.
The party want relaxed lockdown regulations for the hospitality industry, and especially the country’s beleaguered restaurant sector.
The country is currently on adjusted level 4 lockdown, with tighter restrictions on the sale of alcohol and the amount of diners who can sit down and eat at restaurants.
The EFF labour desk's Baatseba Nchabeleng says employees within the hospitality industry are going through a tough time.
"This current level 4 lockdown has affected millions of already economically ailing households.
“Continued restricted access and functionality of the hospitality industry due to lockdown regulations will further frustrate and harm many people across the country.”
Nchabeleng says the department should consider normal restaurant operating hours with no limit.
The party has given Minister Mmamoloko Khubayi-Ngubane seven days to respond.
