The red berets have ordered its members to shut down Clicks stores nationwide following a racially insensitive ad campaign.

The health and beauty retailer has come under fire for labelling black people’s hair as “dry, damaged, frizzy and dull” and white people’s hair as “normal” in an ad campaign.

The party’s leadership and members were deployed at major outlets on Monday to force the retailer to close its doors.

Shivambu, who joined the protest at Sandton City, said the party would not allow racism to thrive for the sake of jobs.

"In the immediate the employees- I'm sure - are agreeing with us that we must fight against racism.

"They unfortunately going to suffer collateral damage in the immediate, but the fact of the matter is that is that we are not going to allow racism and we going to fight it with whatever possible.”

Shivambu said the EFF believes the employees would benefit from the nationwide shutdown.

When asked about their plan is with Unilever, the brand whose advert was on Clicks website, Shivambu said their gripe is with Clicks for flighting the add.

"The face of that advert is Clicks. It was on a Clicks website, so if Unilever had used any other store we would have taken the store that flighted the advert.

"So, Clicks must take full responsibility.”
