EFFSC warns of ‘anarchy’ if registration fees are not scrapped

The Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) has written to the Department of Higher Education and Training demanding the scrapping of registration fees at universities.

It is also calling on the department to scrap historical debt for students.
EFFSC president Peter Keetse addressed the media at the party’s headquarters in Braamfontein on Monday - outlining plans to assist students ahead of the new academic year.
"You can't demand a registration fee, that another form of academic exclusion. We hope that they will respond. We have given them a deadline that if they don't respond by the 9th of January, which is Wednesday, they will experience the maximum level of anarchy,” Keetse warned.
The EFFSC is also unhappy with the ban on walk in applications, saying not everyone has access to the internet to allow them to apply online.
"Not everyone has smartphones, number one, and number two, you must understand many of our people come from the villages and remoted villages where there is no electricity.
"So for them to charge a phone they must wait for someone whose going to town so you can't expect that person to apply online and scan things so online is not going to work," Keetse added.

It has warned universities not to increase fees for 2019, saying it will lead to a shut down by students.
"You cannot increase fees while we are fighting for fees to fall. You are killing even those who are above the threshold of R350 000," Keetse said.
