Eight arrested in connection with two separate KZN mass murders
Police Minister Bheki Cele says eight people have been arrested in connection with two separate KwaZulu-Natal mass murders that happened on the same day earlier this month.
Speaking at the Durban Central Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, Cele said seven of the suspects have been linked to the attack in Richmond nearly two weeks ago.
Eight members of a family were gunned down at their home in eSigcakeni.
"A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted in the Richmond area and resulted in the arrest of seven suspects aged between 21 and 43-years-old, who were arrested in different locations and found to be in possession of several high calibre firearms and ammunition, including possession of drugs.”
Six people, including a 17-year-old boy, were killed while sitting behind a tuckshop in Amaoti, north of Durban.
Cele says the eighth suspect is believed to have been involved in their murders.
"One suspect has been arrested in the Inanda shooting where six people were killed on the 14th January 2022 and a firearm has been seized. Police are strongly pursuing information that the firearms are linked to the multiple murders."
Meanwhile, Cele says no arrests have been made in the KwaMakhuta shooting that took place last Sunday, but they have strong leads.
Four men, aged between 24 and 28, were gunned down in a drive-by shooting while seated under a tree.
