Dunga says some indebted companies and institutions have come forward to make payment arrangements with the municipality.

This comes amid the recent launch of Operation Siyacima Manje-Namhlanje (We are switching off now/today) campaign two weeks ago.

The campaign aims to recover more than R24 billion owed by various entities to the municipality.

Dunga said the city's focus is currently on the top 1000 defaulters.

"We are yet to compile a report in terms of the quantification of the amount of money that we have received after having started the programme.

"All the companies that were visited and actually turned down electricity and water supply, they all came forward to make arrangements to make payment".

"The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development immediately made a payment of R650 000, while we were busy removing the water meter in their building. We are yet to get a report from finance after having verified that the amounts have been received and what is the status of those accounts, then we will account to the council as well,” said Dunga.
