Elderly woman in wheelchair nabbed for drugs at OR Tambo
Custom officials at the OR Tambo International Airport have arrested a woman in a wheelchair for the illegal possession of drugs.
Drugs worth R500 000 were found concealed in her handbag.
The South African Revenue Service spokesperson, Sincelo Mkosi, says the 74-year traveller is a foreign national and was flying to a central European country.
“Upon physical inspection of her hand luggage, a powdery substance was discovered. A drug test was administered, and the contents tested positive for heroin.
She has been charged with drug possession and attempted smuggling.
Mkosi says the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
