DA councillor in the area, Sibusiso Mokoena, says they have been without water since last week Thursday.

This comes amid the power supply interruptions since last week due to outstanding Eskom debt.

Mokoena says residents took to the streets this weekend, because they have been struggling with service delivery for the last four years.

"Now we are having an R800 million unauthorised expenditure from the council...the administrator can't put out a clear leadership in the council that delays service delivery. That is why people are protesting, because this has been happening for a while," says Mokoena.

Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe confirmed that power supply has been disrupted in Emalahleni between 6.00am and 8.00am this morning.

Phasiwe says the municipality has not come to a payment agreement.

"If no payment is made, then unfortunately it means that we will interrupt power supply again from 5.00pm until 7.30pm," says Phasiwe.
