Eskom pushes power cuts to stage 5 & 6
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Eskom has pushed up daytime load shedding from stage 4 to stage 5.
The power utility announced the new changes in the early hours of the morning.
It had initially implemented stage 4 load shedding from 5am to 8pm, and stage 6 load shedding from 8pm to 5am the next day until further notice.
But the utility's spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, said they had to ramp up daytime power cuts due to insufficient generation capacity and the need to further replenish emergency reserves.
"Stage 5 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 today until 20:00. Thereafter, stage 6 load shedding will be implemented from 20:00 until 05:00 on Thursday, "she said.
Mokwena said the pattern of implementing stage 5 load shedding from 05:00 until 20:00 and stage 6 load shedding from 20:00 until 05:00 will be repeated daily until Saturday morning.
"Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes to load shedding should it be required, "she added.
