The claims are made in a voice message is doing the rounds on social media.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the voice messages are aimed at sowing confusion and panic.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and National Union of Metal Workers South Africa (NUMSA) on Tuesday morning announced that they would not go on strike action yet, but will embark on lunchtime pickets.

The main picket will be on Thursday, where the unions have also urged power station workers to join in on the action.

Eskom says contingency measures are in place to negate any possible strike action.

“In an effort to ensure security of power supply, Eskom will activate its contingency measures should the industrial action take place,” says Phasiwe.
