The cash-strapped power utility has announced that it has aside R400m for packages for non-core staff who want to voluntarily leave the company, as a means to cut costs.

On Thursday, Eskom confirmed that it has started the voluntary separation package process targeted at senior employees, but excluding non-managerial staff, which will cut overhead costs.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says only members of senior management are affected.

"Eskom has commenced offering voluntary separation packages targeted at senior employees.”

He says they aim to conclude the voluntary separation agreements by April.

"The VSP process will be implemented during March and April 2020."
