Eskom and Free State power utility Centlec have reached an agreement over electricity payment dispute with the Mangaung metro.
On Monday, Eskom warned that it would cut power to Bloemfontein from Tuesday.
The Mangaung metro owes Eskom more than R170 million.
Following discussions between Eskom, the provincial department of cooperative governance and traditional affairs and the provincial power utility an agreement was reached to suspend the planned blackouts.
Centlec spokesperson Lele Mamatu says Mangaung has promised to pay the monies it owes the power utility.
