Wage negotiations between Eskom, Numsa and Solidarity are set to resume after a deadlock was reached last week.

The power utility's latest offer of 4.7% was rejected by unions demanding a 9% increase.

Three days have been set to resolve the dispute.

"Eskom, in the previous round, had no mandate to continue with the negotiations so we are awaiting their response on whether they have a new mandate," says Solidarity's Tommy Wedderspoon.

The wage dispute triggered a nationwide strike which among other things left power stations without coal resulting in load shedding.

Last week, the three unions presented Eskom with a consolidated report, outlining the workers' grievances.

Numsa's Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says they also expect Eskom to give feedback on the said report.

"We hope for a speedily resolution to the dispute between ourselves and Eskom management. We would like to avoid an impasse."
