Eskom warns of continued load shedding during summer

Eskom has warned that load shedding will continue during the summer as it struggles with capacity constraints
The utility briefed the media on Monday to explain the reasons for the latest round of blackouts, which began on Friday.
Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented on Monday, whereafter stage 2 blackouts will be in place until Friday at 5am.
Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer described a series of breakdowns at the country's power stations over the past week as "disastrous," saying that since last Monday, some 42 generating units have tripped.
Oberholzer says they will ramp up planned maintenance during the summer.
"We have about 5319 Megawatts is just under 11% of the capacity on the unplanned outage, while the unplanned or unavailability is just over 15 000 unacceptably very high.
“We are ramping planned maintenance and we are going to the summer months, we would like to do more maintenance but there is not enough capacity available to take up multiple generators simultaneously.
"This outlook may change at short notice should we experience unforeseen breakdowns. As we are going to the lower demand summer periods, sporadic load shedding unfortunately remains."
