Eskom warns of load-shedding on Sunday
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Eskom has warned of a high probability of Stage 2 load-shedding on Sunday.
The embattled power utility said an increase in breakdowns at its power stations on Saturday has impacted the availability of sufficient generation capacity.
"As a result, we have been unable to build up the necessary reserves for the week ahead. We therefore regret to announce that up to Stage 2 load-shedding remains a high probability for Sunday. As previously announced, there also remains a high probability of Stage 2 load-shedding for Monday," the power utility said in a statement.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan said last week that Eskom will do everything in its power to avoid rolling blackouts over the festive season.
"Our maintenance teams are tirelessly working to bring generating units back online," Eskom said.
