Eskom warns of more load shedding
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Eskom annouced late on Saturday night that another day of Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented on Sunday.
The power utility says after implementing Stage 2 from 23:00 on Saturday evening up untill 08:00 on Sunday morning, it will move to Stage 4 again untill 23:00 on Sunday night.
Eskom confirmed that the latest round of load shedding was as a result of the recent cyclone in Mozambique.
"Unfortunately, even with the implementation of Stage 4 load shedding today, Eskom experienced a further decline in water reserves, which was used to supplement generation capacity", says Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe.
"The management of diesel and water resources is essential to ensure that the impact of the potential stage of load shedding in the week can be reduced.
"Eskom is currently implementing Stage 4 load shedding due to the loss of capacity, which included imports from Mozambique.
At this stage, it appears unlikely that the imports from Mozambique will be restored in the next few days, which we can now confirm was affected by the cyclone," Phasiwe says.
Maintenance teams are hard at work to return units to the system.
The beleaugered power supplier has apologised for the inconvenience caused.
