Eskom’s Sean Maritz to plead for his job

Eskom executive Sean Maritz has been given until Tuesday by the
power utility to give reasons as to why he should not be suspended.

Maritz has been implicated in the R1.6 billion McKinsey and Trillian corruption scandal.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says Maritz will meet with the board on Tuesday, and is expected to make representations as to why he should not be suspended.
The national power utility earlier confirmed that five officials, all facing serious allegations of corruption, have left the entity.
President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa met with Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba a week ago to discuss some of the issues facing the cash-strapped power utility.
Government appointed a new 13-member board and acting CEO following the meeting and ordered Eskom to remove those facing serious allegations.

At the same time, the Labour Court gave head of generation Matshela Koko a temporary reprieve, ruling that he cannot be fired until the matter is heard in early February.
Koko turned to the Labour Court after he was given an ultimatum to either resign, or be fired.
Phasiwe says two others were fired.
