Explosion at Potch Rag farm as fireworks catch fire, one person seriously injured
Updated | By Christelle du Toit
An explosion at the Potchefstroom campus of the North West University (NWU) on Friday has left one employee of a fireworks service provider seriously injured.

According to the University's Louis Jacobs, it is believed that a combination of humidity and static electricity led to a spark being formed.
No students or university personnel were affected by the explosion though.
This week, a storm in the area severely damaged a number of tents and audio equipment at the Rag farm, leading to the suspension of the annual celebration.

"Yesterday during the course of the afternoon the inspection continued on the Rag farm to make sure we have the necessary electricity certificates and certificates from engineers and yesterday afternoon just after 5 the whole Rag farm terrain was declared safe and the programme could continue last night," says Jacobs.
However, the annual float parade will not be taking place at this year's rag as students did not have time to complete their structures for this.
